There is something interesting and disturbing about this practice of "fattening up" thin models. Companies use the female body to sell almost anything. So it seems logical that these companies would want to follow the trend of what body type is most pleasing to most people in order to sell more of their product. So airbrushing weight onto models is going to help companies make more $.
I find it disturbing that the American girl or woman is being told what type of body image is desirable. And we are " eating this up". We feel unhappy and discontented with ourselves if we don't look like the type that is deemed attractive. We are a society of clones. If we are unable to be a clone, we feel terrible about our bodies. Isn't my body doing what is was created to do? That should make me feel happy about my body.
Thanks for your comment, when I think about what you said, "Isn't my body doing what it was created to do? that should make me feel happy about my body." I think aobut how childern are so pleased with their bodies. They celebrate the ability to skip and jump. Little toddlers even want to run around naked. They feel freedom because of their bodies. As we age we loose that bliss. Maybe it's time to celebrate what our bodies CAN do, instead of what they can't.
Beware-I plan to share my actual feelings complete with some harsher language. Be warned. I am a talented designer, successful career person and Pratt graduate with BFA in Interior Design. I am a loving daughter, sister, and friend. And I am overweight. I'm working to overcome all the shame and self-loathing that comes with the weight and this is my journey.
